I’ve come to the realization that the rich and famous play a major role in the decision making of many households throughout the world. As people relax in the comfort of their own home, a advertising commercial or music video may come on television and persuade them to strive for a piece of the good life. While witnessing individuals lounge on million dollar yachts on their personal islands, will mesmerize some into pondering on how to become a part of the luxurious lifestyle. Not only does it create thoughts on how to increase income tremendously within the household but it will have thousands searching for the top designer knockoffs. Men and women will search for designers’ sunglasses, purses and clothes to impress their peers that they are important. At almost any local flea market a person bringing in $50,000 a year can purchase attire that Brad Pitt chooses to wear and has over a million dollar income each year. Although it wouldn’t be the real thing, you can look just as good as the rich for a cheaper price. To top the ensemble off, many have to have wonderful diamonds that finish the outfit of the rich. This can be purchased at the local corner store in your neighborhood as well as the beauty supply store if you’re unable to afford the real deal. People reasons behind desiring these things may be that the rich and famous environment is lavish and they want to feel just as special. As a result, one’s self esteem may be heightened. When individuals go and purchase items that they desire, it makes them feel good because of what they have accomplished. After buying those new Dolce and Gabbana frames from Pearle Vision and you turn to look at yourself in the mirror it makes you feel like a different person. Will this ever bring happiness and permanent self-esteem back to a person remains a mystery.

December 14, 2008Many of the average income households can only imagine what it is like to always have access to the most luxurious items in life. The author Mark Dolliver completed a survey of people making at least $125,000 per year on how they viewed some things when it came to the expensive taste. When asked how they define luxury, 44 percent replied that luxury was the feeling of happiness and satisfaction you get from being with your family or friends. 37 percent said luxury is having enough to do whatever you want and being able to afford it.19 percent said that luxury is the finer things in life that surround you with supreme comfort, beauty and quality. While millions of middle and low class income families strive for the finer things, only 19 percent of the higher income people said luxury is the better quality of things. The thing that should alarm people working extra hours for family should look at what 44 percent of people defined luxury as. Instead of working ridiculous hours to get some extra things your children want, maybe more time should be spent trying to bring your family and friends closer together.
It is obvious that not all of the rich and famous have their values unorganized. Almost half of those people said that family and friends are more important than the luxuries they purchase. The things we take for granted like the ones close to us are what the rich cherish. I guess both sides of the field admire something from the other side as well.

December 14, 2008There are other ways of being materialistic than clothes and shoes, such as purchasing name brand windows for your house and name brand carpet that is expensive. Although those items will last a little bit longer than keeping up with all of the latest toys for your child, in most cases it is better to take the cheaper route. The average American is currently working around 47 hours or more a week in order to support their families pricey taste. Instead of spending more quality time with the family, parents are opting to stay at work to support not only the kids shopping habits but their owns as well. American CEOs now make more than 400 times what their average workers make, and the top 20 percent of American households earn nearly as much as the bottom 80 percent. By looking at these numbers this informs me that the CEOs can afford to spend tons of money due to the amount of money they are bringing home. Not only can they afford it but they get chances to set aside money for their children’s college fund and spend more time with them. It would only be natural for them to wear the finest clothing and reside at the five star hotels while traveling because they are bringing home six figures. On the other hand, families that make less than that will try to compete with the richest to seem as if they are just as important.
I agree with the people that stated that luxury is being with your family and friends. Some material things are nice but your family and friends give you and everlasting love that should over power anything materialistic. In our society I feel that alot of you people have their priorities mixed up when it comes to handling decisions like this. This is something that will more than likely get worse with time.

December 14, 2008A vast majority of children grow up having a dream of becoming rich one day. It is wonderful that individuals have aspiration to prosper into a successful adult, but the downfall is the motivation behind it is money. Some feel that if you are rich you can have nice cars, houses and clothes, which is absolutely true but is that all you desire. Young adults only see being rich in predominately one way and that is financially. On the other hand, you can be rich in friends, health, strength, family, knowledge, skill or character. While being rich in these areas is very important because unlike material things, those items never go out of style and are irreplaceable. As a result, this will definitely be beneficial to you in the long run because without good health you wouldn’t be able to show off any of the material things you own. These things are often very hard for some teenagers to understand, but as you mature they will become more important.
I totally agree that people should pay more attention to the areas of in rich in health, family and friends. Personally I feel that these are the things that bring you happiness. Although some may disagree and think that money is everything. What is money and clothes when your body is six feet under the ground?

October 1, 2008- 1. I wonder about what goes through people head before they decide to have an affair.
- 2. I’m puzzled by the government taking more money out of my check then I’m receiving back at them from at refund time.

I’m interested in knowing why we desire the things we can’t have. I personally feel like there is an internal desire for the things we can’t have whether it is food or thinking about being with a person we can have physically but not mentally. I’ve heard my aunt saying she wants some fried food and sweets. Due to all of her medical conditions, it puts a strain on what she can intake. It’s like a person trying to lose weight. I have a friend of mines from high school that enjoys dating other women husbands. When I asked her about it, she replied that she enjoys the risk of getting caught and she doesn’t have anything to lose. The men she is involved with can only call at certain times and she doesn’t feel that they will annoy her not to include the gifts she receives.
This topic is interesting because everyone wants to know about someone else’s relationship. Let’s face it humans are curious as to why both parties are doing this. Relationships good bad everyday and it is up to the individual to stay or leave after weighing the pros and cons. Some people are too embarrassed to admit to a complete stranger that they have been cheated on. This will be the hard part of this. I hope to discover that men and women cheat because we act on desire as humans.

I believe that GOD created heaven and hell as well as humans because we as humans are able to create many things except for a cell. At the tender age of three, I attended a Christian Academy for my schooling. On a daily basis I was taught that GOD created the humans and heaven and hell. I also went to religious services after the school hours were over. Day after day, I learned different things that GOD created, his likes and dislikes and the sacrifices he made for me to live. Not only was I taught this, but I truly believe it as well. God does have an effect on my daily routines, relationships and many other aspects of my life. What people forget is humans are far from perfect and God knows that.
There are a variety of different religions that have different beliefs. Everyone has a right to practice whatever religion they feel is best for them. Most people that are very religious come from a religious family so this is instilled within them from birth. The task leader on my job is an atheist and doesn’t believe in God at all. I asked him why and he responded that he doesn’t believe in something that he can’t see. He says that people go to church on Sunday and pay all of their hard earned money to church that gives it to a pastor to get rich. This is why we reside in America and we are free to practice whatever we feel.

July 30, 2008I’ve decided to pick the first question. Aesthetic enthusiasm is the one that inspires me to write the most because I can get really creative. The part that hit home the most with this one is when I saw that the words and arrangement were very important. I looked and only smiled because it reminded me of the Stanley Fish and Collin Brooke dispute. This motivates me because it allows my writing to be unique and stand out to others. I feel that if you leave an imprint in that individuals imagination, then they will never forget the experience. I can say that at one point or another people are able to take and apply a piece of my writing with them.

July 15, 2008Year after year, young adults across the United States graduate after completing some sort of schooling. Stanley Fisher, a well known English professor feels that “most students can’t write clearly because they’re not being taught.” Although college students sit through hours of lectures during their course, a variety is still unable to grasp the concept of how to “form” good “coherent” writing techniques. A vast number of instructors appear to focus predominately on the “content rather than the form” within their English class. Once you begin to concentrate on content of the text versus the form, Fisher states that it’s just a “lure” to deter you away from how a “clear sentence” should be written. As a result, content should be “banished from the classroom.”
Collin Brooke strongly believes that any type of great writing consists of an equal mixture of “form and content in a particular context.” In order to create a clear clean sentence it must contain both “form” and “content” so that the reader can have a better understanding of what the main idea is. On the other hand, it is “possible to examine language in the absence of content.” With an amazing combination of “form” and “content”, people are more likely to “combine sentences into paragraphs” and “effectively communicate ideas and target particular audiences.”
I’ve made a conclusion that Fisher has a mysterious way of effective teaching skills that I agree with to a certain extent. I do not doubt that form plays a major role within the writing process but I will join Brooke and say you need both form and good content in order let the viewers have a mind blowing experience while reading your essay. By having the two combined it will make the essay flow a lot better and gives the readers a better understanding of what exactly the message is.

July 3, 2008Within his essay, Dumbing down American readers, Harold Bloom claims that Stephen King doesn’t deserve the National Book Foundation’s annual award for “distinguished contribution”. Although the award went to King, Bloom feels it was an amazing low for our society. His instincts tell him that the kids who read J.K. Rowling will only appreciate Kings work. Since our readers and writers praise Kings work so much, the youth writers are being taught his way of writing in thousands of curriculums across the country. Bloom expresses that we praise or “recognize commercial books” only and our horizons to valuable literature are shortened by doing this. He says Kings books “do little for humanity than keep the publishing world afloat.”
Many Americans love King while on the other hand, Bloom feels that King is an “inadequate writer on a sentence-by-sentence” basis. The incredible author King has been writing for years and has an authentic way of expressing his ideas. If this were not the case, the National Book Foundation’s annual award would not have recognized him for his talented skills as an extraordinary writer. Bloom states that our “cultural life” is basically going down hill because of our choice in what millions of readers feel is excellent literature from King. In the United States, there are thousands of people from coast to coast who adore and support every single novel that has been published by this legendary author. I feel like everyone is entitled to read whatever catches their attention and when you have millions of fans supporting you and a few that dislike you, then you are doing something correct. Bloom needs to face the fact that he is definitely out numbered in this battle. King will always have the eyes of millions of Americans contrary to how Bloom feels. The numbers of supporters are more likely to be on the rise due to the fact that colleges are using his literature.

June 24, 2008I shop daily to buy things I need for the house. I shop carefully at night so I can return home safely. I shop at various gas stations for low gas prices. I shop to make me feel good about my appearance. I shop when my daughter grows out of shoes. I shop when I need and want shoes. I shop for birthdays. I shop for holidays. I shop for belts that match my shoes. I shop for diamonds when I start feeling blue. I shop for tires when my old ones wear down. I shop when I have family members come visit me from out of town. I shop the most when I see bargains. I shop in all the seven cities. I shop the best when my girlfriends are with me. I shop harder when stores are just about to close. I shop when I need groceries in the house. I shop mostly because it’s a way of life. I shop to ease my mind from society for a while. I shop so I can show off the latest outfit in style. I shop to purchase tools needed for my job. I shop to get different music I listen to. I shop just before I head out to the club or bar. I shop by myself so I won’t feel rushed. I shop the most in the morning to beat the heat. I shop to have a presentable house that I worked for. I shop sometimes just because I’m bored. I shop when I’m starving and ready to eat. I shop everyday of the week. I shop in different stores and meet new faces all the time. I shop a lot may be because it’s a woman’s thing. I shop and find the items I’ve been searching for when I’m almost of spending money. I shop late knowing that I should be home by a certain time, but the only thing I’m really thinking of is what I can find. I shop the most on black Friday. I shop every single day because it’s what I know how to do.
